Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel, endeared as Sardar, was an Indian statesman. He served as the first deputy Prime Minister of India from 1947 to 1950. The title ‘Sardar’ meaning chief in Hindi, was given to him by Mahatma Gandhi. This name was given to him as a recognition for his exceptional organizational skills during the Bardoli Satyagraha.
